MEET THE ARTIST

That last picture is me... when I'm all dolled up---are you laughing?

I have been an artist and calligrapher for over 30 years. While exploring all kinds of mediums like oils, pastels, acrylics, sculpture and even various kinds of crafts, I always came back to my love of the letter form and the use of watercolor to compliment the words.

After taking many courses from Cooper School of Art, classes and seminars on calligraphy with such recognized artists and calligraphers as Arthur Baker, Timothy Botts and Julian Waters, to name a few, I turned to developing my own style of calligraphy in early 1980.

After studying Advanced Calligraphy & Illumination with Gene Schwartz of Akron, I became a member in many local, national and international art guilds and organizations. In the 1980’s I began doing as many as 26 art shows and exhibits, juried and non-juried, every year and developed my own clientele.

While accumulating many awards and recognition’s I began speaking and doing demonstrations on TV and to local groups. Since then, I have owned three Art Galleries, a Gift Shop and a Coffee Shop, all of which exhibited and sold my artwork.

Since 1995 I have been working form my studio at home on many corporate and personal commissions as well as a calligraphy book of original religious poems written by Gerald Headd. My responsibilities regarding the book has involved the artistic interpretation of the words of some 50 poems into art and calligraphy for an 8 ½ x 11 format, along with designing the cover and doing all other text in calligraphy.

I am presently looking for a publisher to choose from over 400 of my many original works varying in size from 2 x 2 to 4ft. x 6ft. Some include calligraphy and are of various subject matters. My medium usually consists of watercolors, inks, gouaches and acrylics. I did have some of my artwork and calligraphy published in a book in Turkey. "Kaligrafi" by Murat Unver. He works as a graphic design artist there in Ankara.

Presently I have been painting large acrylics on canvas, mostly florals. My artwork can be found in Sera's Moon Gallery in Carefree, Arizona.

Meet my Family

Hello and welcome everyone! Thanks for stopping in. Let me introduce you to my family. My husband, Ed and I have been married almost 39 years. (He passed on March 2, 2004) First picture is  my daughter, April. Center is my son Allan.  Both of them are fine young adults, single, living on their own and pursuing their careers. Right is a picture of Savas, a young musician from Turkey who spent 6 years with our family. Below left is Nicky, my cat, who was 21 years 4 months old when he passed Feb.20th 2005.  He's was my baby! Now I have Tabitha (lower center) who I saved from being put down. She is a very lovable 9 year old tabby. I got her Oct. 20, 2004. Now my latest addition to my family is 1 yr. old, J. J. Biddles... I call him J. J. for short. Born in the wild, I caught him eating food I left out for him. He has been with me a year, Dec. 7th 2006. He's somewhat shy and doesn't trust people but I'm slowly but surely getting him to trust me. He is so smart and entertaining. Even Tabitha loves him.

I  moved from Ohio to Arizona in November 2003 since my daughter moved there. So far, I love it here. My son lives here too. I don't think I'll ever go back to Ohio, except to visit family.

In Memory of Tina Kennedy

Tina Davis Kennedy 1971 - 2007 One year she's been gone

The young lady in this picture is Tina Kennedy who unfortunately ended her life January 8, 2007.

Those who knew and loved her are in shock. We pray that her demons no longer torment her. May she rest in peace.

She will be missed by many.  Please pray for her soul.

In Memory of my beloved husband,

Edward Born 6-17-40   Passed 03-02-04

On March 2nd my husband, Ed, passed peacefully in his sleep as he lay next to me. He was the most loving, caring, intelligent man I had ever known. He was full of surprises and made my life interesting. He was my husband for almost 39 years and I never regretted one minute of it. He was more than a husband or father... he was my sole mate and my friend. Life will be very different for me now that he has crossed over but I know he will watch over me and his children as he did while he was alive.

You should all know that he always encouraged me to paint. To use my talent. To create. He was my best critic. So... as I mourn for my beloved please know that I also rejoice in our lives together.
