Title: The Galaxy Series

Description of the mixed media:

Two foot square canvases, acrylic and watercolor paint, black foam core, 300 Lb. watercolor paper; silver, black and gold glitter and calk as an adhesive.

"Galaxy One"

This grouping consists of 3 two foot square panels that are meant to be hung together.  The canvas is painted with black acrylic and spattered with white acrylic and then a mixture of glitter is applied while the paint is still wet. The multi-colored squares are painted on 300 lb. watercolor paper in rainbow colors and then torn by hand and glued to 1/4 inch thick foam core and then arranged on the canvases and calked (glued) into place. The small squares are about 1 inch square and the large in the upper right is about 5 inches square and mounted with 1/2 in foam core. Finally they are sealed with an acrylic sealer. This piece is bright and vibrant and pleasant to look at.

Overall dimensions: 2 ft. high, by 6 ft. 6 inches wide (includes 3 inch spaces between canvases).

"Galaxy Two"

This grouping consists of 6 two foot square panels that are meant to be hung together. The uniqueness of this set is that each panel maybe turned in either direction to create a different look with each turn. They can be hung as shown in the photo below or they can be hung in a horizontal line. They can be hung tight together or with more space in between the panels. They can even be split into two 3 panel sets for a different look. The canvas is painted with black acrylic and spattered with white acrylic and then a mixture of glitter is applied while the paint is still wet. The multi-colored squares are painted on 300 lb. watercolor paper in rainbow colors and then torn by hand and glued to 1/2 inch thick black foam core and then arranged on the canvases and calked (glued) into place. Finally they are sealed with an acrylic sealer. This is a fun piece whether it is hung horizontal or vertical the 3-D effect plays with the shadows and light.

Overall dimensions as shown: 6 ft. 6 inches wide by 4 ft. 3 inches high (includes 3 inch spaces between canvases).

"Galaxy Three" - Top & Bottom

This is the top half of a 6 piece grouping. Again done on two foot square canvases. Painted in bright vibrant colors  this time on the canvas and the torn squares in black. You'll notice the way the black squares layout on each piece giving the viewer a sense of symbols from some far away galaxy. Are they trying to communicate? Again all the canvases are spattered with white paint and the glitter is on the black torn squares. They look great as a three piece set. This was in a conference room with the bottom set on the opposite wall. Bright and Cheerful for those serious clients!

Comments by the Artist: As a realist and don't do much abstract but this project was really inspiring. My whole thought behind the design was to create a theme that would allow the viewer to see something different every time a canvas was turned or moved whether hung alone or as a set of 2, 3, 4 or 6. With this versatility it not only stimulates the viewer but the size gives the owner a multitude of ways to fill corporate walls and spaces and every time you move them you have an entirely new look.
